Drive-In Rack in Kentwood, MI
Drive-in rack helps Kentwood facilities concentrate matching pallet loads, but the handling truck determines whether that density is practical. A layout needs room for the forklift to enter, position its load, and withdraw at every proposed storage level without conflicting with the structure.
Newer taller buildings can offer more vertical opportunity, yet lift capability and inventory rotation still set the usable arrangement. Our supplying and installing work began in 1997; Grand Rapids Pallet Rack is a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co. We assess the loads, equipment, and operating routes as one storage problem.
Drive-In Rack for Concentrated Pallet Reserves
Deep lanes favor operations holding many pallets of relatively few SKUs. Automotive supply reserves or repeat medical distribution loads may fit when each lane can remain assigned to a matching inventory group. Single-ended entry means LIFO handling: the final pallet loaded is the first one retrieved. Where dated medical or pharmaceutical stock needs another sequence, that limitation must be resolved before choosing the system.
The value comes from reducing internal access aisles, not from making every pallet equally reachable. Compare normal quantities per item against lane depth, including the quieter part of the replenishment cycle. A block that looks full at peak receipts may have poor utilization afterward. Separating deep reserves from individually accessed stock often produces a more workable arrangement than pursuing maximum density everywhere.

Kentwood Height and Airport Logistics
Across 36th Street, Patterson, Broadmoor, and 52nd Street, airport logistics traffic makes approach space important. In newer taller Kentwood buildings, added rail levels should follow verified loaded lift capability while leaving receiving and dispatch routes clear of lane entry movements.
Drive-In Pallet Rack Around the Actual Forklift
Obtain the forklift model and its working dimensions before selecting frame openings. Overall width is only one input: mast shape, overhead guard, fork carriage, load backrest, and usable capacity at height can all affect lane operation. The pallet envelope adds its own constraints through overhang, wrapping, and load lean. Those dimensions establish the clearance needed during lifting and reverse travel.
Inside each lane, pallets rest on longitudinal support rails while the truck runs on the floor. Rail bearing width and spacing must suit the pallet construction and maximum loaded weight. Floor guides are separate components, sized for the truck's wheels and underbody geometry rather than assumed compatible. Vertical rail spacing must leave placement clearance at each elevation without sacrificing the required support arrangement.
We compare the resulting storage block with alternatives using the surrounding aisles as well as the positions inside it. Pushback removes truck entry while preserving LIFO handling; pallet flow serves FIFO through gravity-fed lanes. Drive-thru racking can also support FIFO with opposite-end access and disciplined loading. Experienced installation crews we schedule and manage work within agreed zones so the proposed arrangement can be introduced alongside continuing warehouse activity.
Four Inputs for a Workable Storage Block
Use representative loads
Photograph loaded pallets and record the largest dimensions and weight. Include variations between suppliers so rail support and clearance checks reflect what operators actually handle.
Verify lifting capability
Match the required storage elevations to the truck's rated capability in its working configuration. Available building height does not prove that a loaded pallet can reach the proposed position.
Protect the approach route
Allow room to align before lane entry and to withdraw after placement. Receiving buffers, cross traffic, and pallet staging must not consume the same working envelope.
Plan by inventory behavior
Allocate lanes using regular pallet quantities and release rules. Keep mixed orders and individually controlled stock in storage that offers the access those tasks require.
