Cantilever Rack in Ada, MI
Cantilever rack gives Ada operations a defined home for manufacturing profiles without treating every load as a pallet. Arms attach to upright columns, leaving the loading face free of front columns so a long bundle can approach across its full length.
The useful question is not simply how many levels will fit. We examine the material resting on each arm, the space required to withdraw it, and the handling route back to production. A cantilever storage rack should make those movements predictable rather than move floor congestion somewhere else.
Why cantilever rack suits profile storage
Long bar, pipe, tube, lumber, and sheet loads place different demands on support spacing. Thin sheet may need an approved support surface, while flexible profiles can require closer upright centers. Material stiffness matters alongside bundle weight; more open space between supports is not automatically useful capacity.
Selective pallet rack remains appropriate for finished goods on sound pallets. Its beam-defined bays can obstruct an overlength load that needs lateral entry. Keeping pallet storage and open-arm storage as separate zones lets each system serve the load it was intended to carry.

Ada production routes deserve their own review
Along Fulton Street East and within the Spaulding Ave industrial area, light manufacturing and specialty assembly provide a useful planning context. Profiles feeding assembly should be accessible without crossing finished-pallet staging. For an Ada layout, we would examine where material enters, where remnants return, and whether another shift needs the same face. That review connects arm elevations and row orientation to the production task rather than to an assumed building footprint.
How cantilever racking is planned
We start with representative loads, including the awkward exceptions that operators otherwise leave beside a rack. Four checks establish the working arrangement before component selection.
Record the load envelope
Measure maximum bundle width, length, depth, and weight, plus any packaging that changes fork entry. Include partly used bundles because loose pieces may behave differently from strapped material.
Match arms to support needs
Arm length must accommodate the supported load depth. Check capacity at the specified load position, then verify upright and base ratings rather than multiplying an arm rating into a presumed system rating.
Choose the accessible faces
A single-sided arrangement can serve a perimeter position; a double-sided arrangement needs working aisles on both faces. Compare the entire occupied footprint, including bases and approach space.
Test the handling movement
Use the actual forklift dimensions and load swing to review access. A side-loader changes the travel envelope, but its platform, reach, and load placement still need checking against the proposed arms.
Cantilever rack details for a clear handover
Indoor storage protects moisture-sensitive stock; outdoor applications require a finish and components selected for exposure. We also examine the operating surface and how weather affects the material itself. Moving a design outside is a specification change, not merely a different row location.
Grand Rapids Pallet Rack is a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., supplying and installing since 1997. We coordinate experienced installation crews, review the planned arm elevations with them, and manage the installation sequence around agreed working areas. Capacity information and the final arrangement belong in the handover.
